988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline

Trained counselors, 24/7, in English and Spanish.

In immediate danger? Call 911 or go to the nearest emergency room.

What happens when you contact 988?

A trained counselor listens, asks how you're doing, and helps you find a way through right now. You can stay anonymous.

Most contacts are resolved on the call or text. The 988 Lifeline says fewer than 2 in 100 calls involve emergency services, usually only when someone's life is in immediate danger and they can't agree on a plan to stay safe. More than half of those happen with the caller's agreement.
